Farmer Auctions is Very Proud to Present the Estate of Dr. & Mrs. Houska Mary and Chuck Houska lived in their beautiful home, which is a reproduction of the George Wythe home (colonial Williamsburg, VA) for over 60 years. They shared passions for collecting antiques, gardening, and traveling the world. They both retired as Professors. Chuck Houska retiring from Virginia Tech as Professor Emeritus of Materials Science and Engineering & Mary Houska from Hollins University as Associate Professor of Economics. Their valuable collection contains over 200 years of family history, primarily stemming from ancestor, Samuel Sanford, who was a successful Boston ship owner and merchant. The Sanford’s were long an active part of Boston Society. The Sanford antiques and collection are New England based. In addition to the Sanford collection, Chuck Houska’s hobby was to make antique furniture reproductions, producing many beautiful pieces over the years, which blended well with the original antiques inherited from the New England ancestors.
